The second set for the World of Warcraft miniatures game named Spoils of War is set to hit store shelves on May 5th, 2009.
Spoils of War will introduce several unique aspects to this extremely popular Wow Minis game. What’s new? Spoils of War marks the introduction of new equipment cards and adds powerful new miniatures to build upon the core set. However, equipment isn’t the only sweet new addition you can also look forward to channeled spells in Spoils of War.
In Spoils of War monsters get a lot of love, especially demons and ethereals, but you’ll also find sea creatures, beasts and a warload of others filling out the World of Warcraft minis game as a whole.
With the latest set the possibilities are endless with all of the diversity this expansion brings to the table. For more information on Spoils of War check out an awesome blog with a funny named called Crits Happen or the WoW Minis section on the official Troll and Toad website.

Alara Reborn! It’s that time of year again for a new Magic the Gathering set. Alara Reborn is right on the cusp of being released; in fact the big day is Thursday, April 30th. even though new sets usually appear on Friday. With that said, the good news is this means there will be 4 days of launch party events for players to enjoy.
According the lore behind this set Alara Reborn represents the culmination of schemes set in motion by the planeswalker Nicol Bolas. As the five shards smash together, untold power is unleashed in the chaos. Although on a more mundane level this is set 3 of 3 in the Shards of Alara block and will contain 145 cards. However, the most notable aspect of Alara Reborn is that it is the first Magic the Gathering set to be comprised of 100% multicolored cards rock’n the solid gold.
For more information about M:TG check out the Magic the Gathering section on TCGPlayer or our Alara Reborn category on the official Troll And Toad website.

The new Yu-Gi-Oh! set has been dubbed Raging Battle and is set to release May 12th, 2009. Raging Battle is the 4th set of the 6th series and features the Power Tool Dragon on the cover of each booster pack. This set is a continuation of Crimson Crisis and introduces all new traps, spells and of course synchro monsters. One of the most exciting aspects of this new set is that it comes with two new families of monsters. The first family called the Earthbound Immortals are powerful monsters based on the television series. The second family called Koa’ki Meiru monsters are based around countering the top decks currently being played in Yu-Gi-Oh.

Roll Through the Ages is a game produced by Gryphon Games & Eagle Games (I’ll get to that near the bottom) that has been on the market for a while now and lingers somewhere in the middle of Board Game Geeks top 50. Gryphon Games is an in print of Eagle games, it encompasses its smaller titles. Currently there are five games in the line. Money!, Roll Through the Ages, Gem Dealer, High Society, and For Sale. All of them have been published before except Roll Through the Ages.
Roll Through the Ages is played by rolling dice, at the beginning each player gets three dice. Dice can be re rolled ala Yahtzee so you can try and tailor the rolls to suit your strategy. The game comes in a small box about half the size of
a standard bookcase box. It is very heavy, upon opening it; you’ll find a thick scorecard, double sided. 4 wooden commodity tracks, a rulebook, a heavy cardstock player aid, 7 wooden dice and pegs for the commodity tracks. The components are wonderful, and are very pretty. My only small complaint is that the dice are a little big, if you have small hands you’ll have trouble rolling all seven at once, nothing a dice cup wouldn’t solve though.
On to the game! The game is very fast, a game should be over in 10 minutes tops once the players are familiar with the rules. The rules themselves are pretty simple, and the player aid card and scoring pad are great for reminders. In fact after reading the rules once, you probably will never have to refer to them again, as most of the information is on the player aid.
Now, the second edition of Roll Through the Ages is part of the mothership also known as Eagle Games.

Memoir ‘44 and Halls of Montezuma!
Today I’m going to discuss a couple board games for no other reason than I think they are neat and because after several years Memoir ‘44 is still way up the cheese line on the Board Game Geek’s rankings. First is the Memoir ‘44 board game and the second is a card driven war game called Halls of Montezuma.
Memoir ‘44 is a strategy board game with a war theme designed for two people by Richard Borg. It is published both in English and in French by Days of Wonder. If you would like to play with more than two people Memoir ‘44 can also be played with up to 6 players in teams and as many as 8 players in the “Overlord” scenarios but requires two copies of the game. Memoir ‘44 is an award winning game, in fact it won the 2004 International Gamers award for general strategy and 2004 The Wargamer award for excellence.
If the time period wasn’t obvious enough from the title, Memoir ‘44 simulates over a dozen of the battles connected with the D-Day invasions in World War II. It uses the same game system as Battle Cry.
The Halls of Montezuma is the new card driven design from David Fox and Michael Welker, bringing a strategic and operational look at the American war with Mexico, tracing the war’s history from the opening battles along the Rio Grande to the U.S. invasion of Vera Cruz and the occupation of Mexico City by the future American Civil War leader, Winfield Scott. The Halls of Montezuma (HoM) is a card-driven game that rests on the lower end of the GMT game complexity meter, while still capturing all the tension, uncertainty, and chaos of the conflict.
You can find a warload of more information at Board Game Geek or at the board games section of Troll and Toad on these two games and many others.

White Wolf RPGs! When it comes roleplaying game publishers White Wolf is certainly among the top. Many of you are familiar with some of White Wolf’s hits such as as the Vampire: The Masquerade RPG but they haven’t stopped there. Now you can enjoy such titles as Werewolf: the Forsaken, Vampire: the Requiem and Hunter: The Vigil in the vast world of White Wolf RPGs.
Werewolf the Forsaken is the successor to Werewolf: The Apocalypse (which we also keep in stock). It is a role playing game set in the new World of Darkness which features mystery theme with dark overtones.
Vampire: The Reqieum is of course successor of very popular Vampire: The Masquerade RPG. However, Vampire: The Requiem isn’t just a continuation of its predecessor, though it may share similar elements to the previous Vampire books. Although Vampire: The Requiem is a full game itself you will need the World of Darkness corebook to go on this journey.
Among the newest RPGs in White Wolf’s lineup is Hunter: The Vigil. This game will have a limited game line and consist of a core setting book and a few supplements. What are Hunters? Hunters typically work in small groups called cells and rely on flexibility and local knowledge for survival.

The original Talisman board game was published by Games Workshop but is now in the hands of Fantasy Flight Games. It has gone through several revisions over the years but Talisman 4th edition revised is the latest iteration of the board game. The 4th edition of Talisman is ranked 499 on Board Game Geek as of this post but I think it deserves a mention.
That little chestnut might be interesting to some but I’m sure most of you want to know what the game is about right? The goal of the game is to make your way through a series of regions to reach the Crown of Command. At the beginning of the game each player will create a hero at random. Each hero has different special abilities and a specific starting location. A major object of the game is to build up your characters statistics enough to progress into the regions and Loki willing to the Crown of Command. How do I make my hero all beefy? You start out with 4 lives, 2 bags of gold and your attributes that consist of life, gold, strength and craft. Strength and craft are essentially what you use in combat, in particular physical combat and psychic combat.
Moving around regions is simple, it involves players rolling a die! In various locations the game will indicate a specific event or encounter. They’re are several awesome things that can happen. For example you could be required to draw a number of Adventure cards containing events, battle an enemy or that you have found treasure/objects/magic items. Each of your trials and tribulation assist you in building your character and ultimately whether or not you are victorious.
The latest expansion for Talisman 4th edition revised is aptly named “The Reaper” because it introduces a new game mechanic that features the Grim Reaper which you can manipulate against other players. Also, The Reaper expansion offers Talisman Revised 4th Edition players 4 new character cards and plastic figures, 90 new Adventure Cards, 26 new Spell Cards, 12 Warlock Quest Cards, and the Grim Reaper of course.
